What's In a Name?

Has anyone but me noticed that the father of one of the accused Duke lax boys is named Kevin Finnerty? The exact name of the character that Tony Soprano was so confused about in the dream sequence after he was shot by Uncle Junior. Any of this sound familiar. I don't believe in coincidence. Just plain weird.

What Did They Expect -- Gratitude?

I love a story like this. When you think about all that's going on in the world it's nice to know that the international news community has its priorities in order.

According to the Washington Post, "After 14 days trapped in the innards of a Greenwich Village building, Molly the cat finally emerged wearing a look on her face that said, "What's all the fuss about?" -- you'd think the Post writer would be smart enough to know that cats ALWAYS look at you like that. Always.

Taking a Break

Hit the road to spend Easter with my family in Virginia. The drive yesterday took seven and a half hours but it was worth it. Saw Billy Joel at the Verizon Center with my sister, celebrated my brother's birthday today and will have an Easter feast tomorrow. Don't feel too outraged. Will enjoy the moment. I know it won't last.

Physician, Heal Thyself

I read a headline like this: Bush Blames Reid for Immigration Meltdown and I scratch my head - figuratively, not literally.

For a party that has been in the minority of our government's legislative branch for more years than I care to count, it's amazing how much power it has. But the outrage here? -- Bush is lying. The vote was blocked because the GOP couldn't get 18 conservative Republican senators to vote the way Bush and Frist wanted them to. Blame the Democrats for plenty - but for stalling this immigration bill, no way.

Here's the vote breakdown. Time to wake up people.

What's a church to do?

It's hard to get rid of your favorite punching bag. I've always been fascinated by the political relationship between Jesus and Judas. No shit - I always knew there was something going on they weren't telling us.

What went unsaid (at least in religious ed classes I remember) is that Christianity happened ONLY because Jesus died and rose again -- and without Judas, there's no redemption for all of us. I always thought he got a raw deal. And without him AND Jesus, we'd likely all still be labelled Jew or Gentile. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Journalist? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Journalists

I've said this many times here but I must repeat myself. Katie Couric bugs the shit out of me. I don't know if it's here always peppy delivery - which I find fake and obnoxious - or the fact that she's perceived as a "news" person. And now she's lleaving the Today Show to replace Dan Rather. According to Maureen Dowd today, this country needs a female news anchor at the Big 3 before we'll elect a female commander in chief so I guess it's a good thing. But I can't help but recall the stunt where Katie and Jay Leno traded desks during a sweeps stunt - or has the network nightly newscast just a serious talk show gig now?

Couldn't Happen to A [Nastier] Guy

I had other words to go in that bracket regarding Tom DeLay's resignation - but didn't want to kick him while he's down. Oh that's not really true. Let me know how you'd fill in the blank.

I was just sharing with colleagues my small, insignificant role in the Tom DeLay resignation. You see, I once hired a freelance columnist for a web site I worked on in 2000. His name was Tony Rudy -- and he insisted that payment go to Liberty Consulting. If neither of those names sounds familiar, you haven't been reading about this enough. So after a phone call and visit from the FBI a few months ago, I knew it was only a matter of time.

But thinking about this made me look back in the archives for any outrage about DeLay - and not surprisingly, I've been pretty consistent. And it proves two things: all good things come to those who wait and most importantly, the system works.

So DeLay's outtahere. He's only thinking of his constituents? Right. And there's a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
